Adjust image opacity with a percentage slider

Compare 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%, or enter an exact value for your design.

What the percentage means

100% keeps the original transparency. 50% halves each pixel's opacity. 0% makes the image invisible.

Choose a preview background

Check soft edges on white, black, or checkerboard before exporting.

Image opacity examples

Try a preset on a transparent logo or icon, then upload your own artwork and fine-tune the exact percentage.

A softer logo PNG

Lower the logo to 50%, download the transparent PNG, then place it over a photo, slide, or product mockup in your preferred editor.

A subtle watermark PNG

Use 25% opacity to prepare a subtle watermark PNG, then add it to your photo or document in another editor.

See the same logo over a photo

The photo, logo size, and placement stay the same. Reducing the logo to 25% lets more of the photo show through.

A lighter layer can do more

When to reduce image opacity

Lower opacity when an image needs to support other content instead of competing with it.

Watermark assets

Lower the opacity of a logo or signature, download it as a transparent PNG, then place it over your photo or document in your preferred editor.

Start around 25–50%

Web overlays

Create a semi-transparent PNG for a hero overlay, badge, UI layer, or decorative element that needs to blend with different backgrounds.

Check light and dark backgrounds

Presentation backgrounds

Fade an illustration, texture, or logo behind slide text while preserving the original image dimensions for your layout.

Keep important text readable

Design mockups

Try a softer artwork layer in a landing page, product mockup, or social graphic before exporting a clean transparent PNG.

Use 75% for a light fade

How to change image opacity online

There is no need to open a full design editor for a simple transparency adjustment.

  1. Upload an image

Choose or drop a PNG, JPG, JPEG, or WebP. The image opens at its original pixel dimensions.

  2. Choose a percentage

Move the slider, enter an exact percentage, or select a preset. Check the result on a light, dark, or checkerboard preview.

  3. Copy or download

Copy the current PNG directly to your clipboard or download it with its adjusted transparency.

Choose the right operation

Opacity vs. removing a background

Changing opacity fades every pixel by the same percentage. Use it to soften a watermark or design layer.

Removing a background makes only selected pixels transparent. Use background removal to isolate a subject or remove a white, black, or green backdrop.

Inspect the actual pixels

Why your PNG looks different on different backgrounds

A light background can soften a dark logo; a dark background can help reveal pale artwork and faint edges. Check both to see how your PNG will look in its final layout.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about output, supported formats, and copying.

How do I lower the opacity of an image?

Upload an image, set a percentage, then copy or download the PNG.

Does changing opacity change the RGB colors?

No. Only transparency changes; the original RGB values stay the same.

Will an already transparent PNG become opaque?

No. Fully transparent areas stay transparent at every setting.

Why does the same image look different on a white or black background?

Transparent pixels blend with the background behind them. Switch between white, black, and checkerboard to inspect the result; the preview background is not exported.

Can I make a JPG transparent with this tool?

Yes. Lower its opacity and export as PNG; JPG cannot store transparency.

Can I restore the original opacity after several changes?

Yes. Choose 100% or Reset. Each adjustment starts from the original image.

Can I copy the transparent image directly?

Yes, if your browser supports image copying. If access is blocked, download the PNG instead.

Can I edit animated images?

Animation is not preserved. Animated PNG or WebP exports as a single still PNG.

Is this image opacity editor private and free?

Yes. Free, no signup, and all image processing stays in your browser.
